The purpose of the MLBS is to scan the terrain in front of the rover by a laser beam in two angular directions. It is composed of a scanning MEMS micro-mirror mechanism, an optical fiber input connector, beam shaping optics and scanner driving electronics. The laser beam will be fed to the scanner via an optical fiber.
The MEMS device is developed by the Swiss company sercalo.
In the MLBS Sensing and Actuation Unit (SAU) Front-End Electronics (FEE), AEIL is responsible for the design of the:
[1] Actuation circuit to apply required high control voltages (up to 120 V) for the electrostatic actuation of the MEMS mirror
[2] Capacitive sensing circuit to detect the position of the MEMS mirror
[3] Prototype SAU FEE using space qualified components
