The ExoMars Seismometer Electronics (ESE) is designed for the ExoMars mission from ESA. It mainly includes the SEIS Acquisition Controller (SEIS-AC) electronics and SEIS DC/DC Converter (SEIS-DC).
The main function blocks of the SEIS-AC (inherited from Netlander) are as follows:
[1] Acquisition controller embedded as a state machine inside an FPGA
[2] Fast serial LVDS interfaces with lander computer (1Mbit/s)
[3] 24-bit scientific measurement channels for analog Very Broadband and Short Period seismic sensors
[4] 24-bit digital feedback to compensate seismic sensors due temperature variations on Mars
[5] 24-bit and 16-bit housekeeping channels to acquire environmental parameters around seismometer for correlation purposes
[6] 16-bit seismometer maintenance: calibration and mass-centering
[7] Pre-processing of acquired data inside FPGA (FIR filtering and averaging to improve resolution of acquired data)
Below are shown the SEIS-AC manufactured by two Swiss industries (left and middle) and the SEIS-DC (right).
